Summer is the perfect time to hit the open road and embark on an RV camping trip. However, there are plenty of factors to consider before you head out on your next adventure. While it might not be the first thing that comes to mind as you plan, it’s essential to consider how you’ll remain cool during the hottest months of the year. RV Land has gathered some helpful tips below. Read on to learn more! If you’re still in the market for the perfect camper, visit our dealership in Kyle, TX.

Prepare Your RV

Before you embark on your journey, you’ll want to take some time to ensure your RV is running smoothly. When you do this before hitting the road, you’re setting yourself up for a successful summer camping trip. You can start by performing a thorough inspection of your rig. If your RV has an air conditioning unit, you’ll want to let it run to make sure it’ll keep you and your passengers cool when it gets warm outside.

Keep the Interior Cool

One of the best and easiest ways to keep the interior of your RV cool is to use the air conditioning. Most campers come equipped with an A/C unit, especially newer models. This is probably the most effective way to keep the interior of your vehicle cool on a hot day. Some travelers prefer to keep their A/C running all the time, but this will suck up a lot of energy, so it’s not always the best choice.

Direction and Location

Where you park your RV can make a big difference in how quickly it heats up. It’s wise to park your rig next to a large tree whenever possible. This is especially helpful if you can find a tree that’ll provide ample shade during the hottest times of the day. You should always make it a point to park so the side of the camper with the most windows is facing away from the afternoon sun. Generally speaking, the door-side of your RV has an awning, which can also be used to deflect some of the sunlight.

Cover the Windows

You might have seen people who put those reflective bubble insulations in their car windows when parked. You can apply this concept to your RV as well. Even when your windows are closed, the sun shining on the glass can cause your interior to warm up quickly. You can shoot those rays away from the RV and combat the extra heat by covering the windows.

Proper Ventilation

Proper ventilation allows you to pump out all the excess air and bring in as much cool air as possible so your RV won’t get any warmer than the temperature outside. Open all the windows on the side facing away from the sun and close the windows on the sunnier side. You may want some fans for better air circulation as well. You can even go as far as installing some attic vents if you don’t have them already.
